Who Goes To A Gun Range?

When I ended my military tour, I joined a gun club that used two different ranges. Both were indoor, but a lot of fun. I would load up my firearms in a gym bag and head off for a couple of hours. A lot different than in the Army. No wind or terrain to deal with and nobody shooting back.

One of the ranges had a special area for magnums and large bore. I would normally use the numbered circular targets, and at times put up the "bad guy" human figure targets. They had a optional "moving" target holder that would sway your target at different speeds which made it real interesting.

I found it both relaxing and challenging, and good for hand/eye coordination. Any other shooters here?

In my younger days, I was a "range rat", but I only go 3 or 4 times a year now, just to keep some eye. In spite of the expense, I do prefer factory ammo over range loads, so I use an indoor range that allows this. Nothing exotic any more, usually just the Smith .357, and the Glock .40 and Colt 9mm autos. I use silhouette targets at various distances, and the occasional bowling pin.

Hey, I'm really jealous. The last time I did that was in the West Virginia mountains. Paying for a range is like getting up in the morning in an air conditioned house, getting into an air conditioned car, and driving to the gym which costs $79.00 a month to sweat it out.

Many many years ago if you wanted to find me I'd either be at work, ( had to work for food, shelter and the toys ) hunting or on the outdoor shooting range. I reloaded all my own ammo and at one time could just about tell you anything you wanted to know about ammo. I was really into ballistics and reloading. That's about all I did. Reload, hunt and shoot. Reloading was my life. Well I did find the time to get married and have a kid. Now don't get me wrong I loved rifles themselves and had plenty of them over the years and my two most priced ones were both Weatherbys in 270 weatherby mag and 25-06 Remington calibers. The 25-06 was a Vanguard model and while not nearly as nice as the Mark V it was more accurate course that had to do more with that particular round then the rifle though. Not bragging cause the first liar never has a chance but I used to be able to shoot a 4 round group at 100 yards of 5/8". This was off a bench and with a 3x9 scope of course. Anyway God knows I've had more fun then a person should be allowed to have in those two decades. Anyway so yeah there's a few of us gun loving individuals around. You can still get my attention faster then yelling "FIRE" in a public place by mentioning guns, ammo or hunting.
May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, Mac

This might identify me as the odd-ball , but here goes:

Once, when I was 9 year old, I held a gun owned by a friend's dad. He was showing me the weapon he used on a couple of 'hunt' he had drug home. I was mighty impressed.

But coming from a 'pacifist' family, never had that opportunity again. Sometimes at the local country-fair I pick up that 'air gun' to blow out a couple of balloons, and that's that.

Since the last year I have a standing request with a friend to take me along when he goes to the range, but he's always had some reason / excuse out of it. I gave up, as I now think he must have been wary of my 'family history' ("strongly anti-gun?, whoa must be a freak..." ).

One day I'll just go by myself and hope to be 'guided'. Maybe y'all can tell me - is there any sort of a 'guide' person in such ranges for people like me? My idea is to just see if I can figure out the trigger end from the barrel, and finally see for myself what is that 'safety catch' (instead of on TV). And of course, see how close to the bulls-eye I can get.

CAll and find out, there are shooting ranges indoors and out. They usually have short training courses for those who just got or are thinking about getting a gun, they'll help chose a proper weapon.

There are several ranges very close to you. I used to go to one on W. 49th street in Hialeah (same as 103rd st.), just west of the bridge. That's a good range and you don't usually wait. There's some North and East of you and pretty close:

AA Lock & Gun Shop - 407 N. Andrews Ave, Ft. Laud.
                American Range & Gun Shop - 3130 S.W.19th St.

                And one of my favorites:
                Revere Gun Range
                601 N.E. 28th St., Pompano Beach

Call ahead and see if you can rent, if you don't have any firearms. Ask if there is tutoring. I do know they give concealed weapon permit classes, and they do have instruction. Just think twice about teaching your wife to shoot.

I have been hunting and shooting guns since I was 5 years old(adult supervision of course ). We have a area we shoot with a pond down in a revene where we target shoot. One of the things that I enjoy most is trap shooting. If you haven't done trap or sporting clays it is very enjoyable and always different. I love shooting trap and have done it since I recieved my first .410 shotgun when I was 6. My parents have obviously never been anti gun which has allowed me to have these experiences. I do think that it is very important to teach children about gun safety as a woodworker would teach you about shop safety.

I never cared for the indoor ranges but I love shooting outside. I go a couple of times a month - handguns and rifles - and I enjoy handloading.

who goes to a gun range?

Well, I do on occasion, but haven't been for quite a while. I do love to shoot
my .45 Colt auto officer model, one sweet shooting pistol. Most of my more recent shooting has been clay targets with a 12ga. pump shotgun. I like it!
No decent chance to break out the long range rifles and crank off a few
rounds in a while though.... eezlock
