    Olivewood Rice Bowl

I have a bunch of olivewood blanks in various sizes from a tree harvested a couple years back, so I decided to see how one of the smaller blanks would turn, and decided it was a good size for a rice bowl. This is what came out. Video link below, thanks for watching.

Absolutely beautiful. I've turned precisely two things in my life and still think turning is pretty close to magic.

That's a great look. My wife, the pen maker in our house, made me a couple of olivewood pens. I really like that wood. I asked her to leave them unfinished and just let them patina, and just occasionally wipe them with olive oil. Great results over the years.

Beautiful bowl and I love the 'figure' of the grain, very distinctive. Best of all was your video, which I really admired the production of. Wish I could do that, but no such skill here.

        Thanks,

Thanks guys, olive being a softer wood, it was a fun change from some of the harder stuff I've been turning recently, and it smells great.

Beautiful grain. Don't you just love it when you take the outer and some inner layers off and discover the beautiful grain inside?

            Well done!

How to turn a bowl: Remove the ugly bits that don't resemble a bowl. Done.
