I received the wood from my arborist friend, he said it was California Peppertree.* This will be a gift for my eldest daughter.* This has been a work in process as time allowed - I cut and sealed the bowl blank about a year ago, and turned and finished it over about a month when I could squeeze few minutes into the shop. Started out as an irregular shape ~12 inches, final size is just under 10 inches across. Cracks/voids filled with sanding dust and CA, then finished with shellac friction polish, then bees wax.* Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys.
Mark, no, it didn't smell like pepper. I understand this is more properly identified as some type of Bay Laurel, so not sure why the Peppertree nickname. Smelled more "earthy", but it was fairly dry.Bill in Buena ParkComment

I really like that. At that size, it will likely see lots of use. Nice job of sticking with it as well.
