    California Peppertree Bowl

I received the wood from my arborist friend, he said it was California Peppertree.* This will be a gift for my eldest daughter.* This has been a work in process as time allowed - I cut and sealed the bowl blank about a year ago, and turned and finished it over about a month when I could squeeze few minutes into the shop. Started out as an irregular shape ~12 inches, final size is just under 10 inches across. Cracks/voids filled with sanding dust and CA, then finished with shellac friction polish, then bees wax.* Thanks for looking!

She will be proud! This wood is gorgeous. I'll have to look the tree up and see what it is and if any is around a here.

Beautiful job on a nice piece of wood. Did it smell like pepper?

            Thanks guys.

Mark, no, it didn't smell like pepper. I understand this is more properly identified as some type of Bay Laurel, so not sure why the Peppertree nickname. Smelled more "earthy", but it was fairly dry.

Bill, great work. I aspire to turn a bowl someday-especially one as large and nice as yours.

I really like that. At that size, it will likely see lots of use. Nice job of sticking with it as well.

Really beautiful Bill, I aspire to work like this. my first few efforts on my lathe have been fun but rather challenging. Lots of learning to do.

                          Nice work!

We have pepper trees all over the place around here.
