    action woodturning photo

I thought this was a very nice action picture of some guy on a lathe.
For the record, I posted the caption below with credits, the pic appeared in the Houston Chronicle online.

Wood flies from the block of wood that Don Fluker, of Houston 77084, is working with during the Gulf coast Woodturners Association Spring Retreat held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. The two day Retreat featured woodturning classes, almost 100 lathes for members to use, tours for visitors, etc. Photo by David Hopper.

Cool photo. Looks like he's wearing a Woodcraft apron.

I guess you only get flying shavings like those in long thin strips if your turning tools are sharp, eh?

          Killer shot, nicely done!

In looking at the photo, to get a ribbon like that, the tool had to be sharp and have a depth of cut deep enough to get such a consistent thickness. I doubt it was spun slow enough to get that length to photograph, or a really fast camera setting, as there is no blur.

                  Thanks!

Loring, I don't know what happened. The picture did not come through for me. So I sent you a PM. When I came back to this posting; the picture was there. Sometimes a picture saves a thousand words. So cool. Thanks for pic. Phil

Don is a first-class turner in all respects - and not only because he sold me his band saw for $35 - seriously, if you can be near Houston in May, the Gulf Coast Woodturners retreat is superb ...

it's am embedded link to the photo, but if you notice the original post is over a year old, and the link at the Houston Chronicle probably is deleted after a year.
Its not a problem but RMCWoodWorks apparently searched for turning posts and replied to many of them that were quite old, dragging them out of their hibernation and putting them on the list of recent posts. Like I said, its not a problem but even the forum regulars don't look at the OP date and they expect the whole thread to be up to date.

Fortunately I saved the picture and for all those who would like to see this great picture again (I'm glad it was brought to my attention again) I have uploaded it to the original post as an attachment, where it should hopefully last the lifetime of the forum (although we have had a major image kill off before).

for those of you who just jumped to the latest posts; heres the pic:
