Dumb question. HF DC mod idea. Probably a brain fart.

So my HF 2HP DC which I have now had since I guess 2008, has been through some upgrades. Wynn 35a canister filter, neutral vane, Wen impeller. So far so good, except... The lower bag.

I DESPISE changing out the lower bag. It is hard to get to and getting the bag and band back on it is like herding cats.

The neutral vane is working great, so no need for a cyclone conversion, but that leaves me with the problem of the lower bag.

Is there any way that anyone can think of to adapt this so that I can drop from the separator ring down into a drum I can quick connect and release?

This is a very incomplete thought, just starting to brew up so sorry I am not even sure how to describe what the thought process is other than, how to fix / make easier dumping and reattaching the dust catch bag / drum....

I have a set of strong magnets. Probably at least 8. Neodymium. You can get stacks from Amazon, temu, banggood etc.
Anyway position the new bag uniformly on the ring leaving enough room for the band after you get it in place with magnets evenly distributed. I just leave them stuck to the ring for next time. You can easily tighten the band because you have 8 more "hands" holding the bag in place.


My bag is full. Due to change soon. Trying to find some who wants 5 or ten gallons of sawdust. I hear they work good for Firestarters mixed with wax into bricks but the scouts weren't interested.

I'm afraid my sawdust has lots of cedar dust. And some aluminum and plastics...

I save my dust collector (ShopVac) stuff in trash bags for composting. Our HOA frowns on compost bins, so I save the collected wood waste. We also micro-shred (1/8"x3/8") all mail that comes into the home and it gets saved in equal amounts to the shop collection. After the growing season is done and the garden cleared of the dead vegetation, The bags of saw dust and shredded paper get spread on the garden and tilled in for the winter. The earth worms seem to thrive in there and when spring comes and it's time to plant, the garden is all ready, just put the plants in.

I do the same thing as LCHIEN does. The magnets really work well for a quick and easy bag change.
