Makita Compact Router Base Irregular Holes

In this thread: ( https://www.sawdustzone.org/forum/di...afu#post860597 ) I posted some picts of a jig for my DeWalt Compact router and also for my Makita Compact router. BUT I learned something strange about the Makita Compact! The Makita Compact holes are irregularly spaced. In the jig for the Makita in the above link, I had to use 3/16th slots in order to accommodate M4 screws into the base due to the different spacing between the front vs rear screws.

The front two screws are 51.47 mm apart. I measured from the hole inside to the other hole inside. With shake hands, I could have been off 1/2 of an MM or more if I had tried to measure center to center of the holes and eyeballing it, but it was easy to clasp the holes inside to inside.

The back two holes are 49.57 mm apart.

The side to side are the same at 40.84 mm apart.

Why in the world would they make such irregular spacing? It buggers the sliding slots up just enough that planning ahead is a real necessity. Maybe they expect the router to be mounted in slots from the side view! Well, maybe that what I should have done . . . but it would have messed up the accessory mounts and knobs.

I'll have to check the bases of my routers. I have the vague recollection that the base holes spacing is not symmetrical on my Ryobi R700. Is there something on the router body itself that requires the weir spacing.

My curiosity wouldn't wait and down to the shop in my jammies I went. The base plate holes in my Bosch 1617, the Ryobi R181 and all of its three bases, and the Ryobi TR31, all have evenly spaced plate mounting holes. However, the old Ryobi R700 base holes are indeed asymmetrical in their spacing. The reason is the depth stop turntable on the plunge router base takes up the space where one hole would be, so that hole is offset from where it would be located if symmetrically spaced.

Not that I could tell. There is plenty of space in the metal ring area of the base for the screws to be re-located less than 1/4 of an inch to make them symmetrical, in my opinion.
