Thanks for the posting this. I have one that's effected for the recall, it was plugged in all the time on one of the workbench's.

Contacted One World Technologies yesterday to confirm one of my Ryobi chargers is on the recall list. Never experienced any problems but definitely would not want to experience the potential danger. OWT gave me a confirmation# and will send FED EX mailing labels to return my charger to them. I am fortunate to have another Ryobi charger to continue my work until the replacement arrives.

Thanks for posting this. Mine isn't part of the recall.

For those who have this model charger, even if it isn't part of the recall, you should be aware that this device has a characteristic that may reduce the operating life of your battery.

I have only used this charger with Ryobi's NiMH batteries, not the Lithium ones, so I don't know if it charges those batteries differently (it should!). This P113 model doesn't appear to go into a "trickle charge" mode at the end, it continues pumping enough current into the battery to make, and keep it warm. That is too much energy for continuous charging.

A friend left his battery on this style charger indefinitely and found that the battery was no good when it came time to use the battery.

I recommend removing the battery when it is done charging, or at least the following day with this charger. I have a different model Ryobi charger that doesn't exhibit this characteristic, so I am not concerned about battery longevity on that charger if I forget about the battery and it remains on that charger indefinitely.

Can recalled charger damage the battery

My charger is in the recall. One of the batteries it charges registers as defective when I try to charge it. Could the defective charger caused this?

I am not certain, however if the voltage / amperage going into the battery is incorrect I would suspect that yes, that could be a problem. However I am no engineer so I can't really say with any authority on that...

                      Talk to Ryobi about it.

Thanks for the heads-up. I saw this thread and checked my charger. Sure enough, it is a recalled unit. I will call tomorrow and get it replaced. Unfortunately, my Li-ion batteries are both about dead. When I bought the kit about 5 years ago, the batteries were about $50 each and now they are $100 each. I paid $200 for the drill, flashlight, and two Li-ion batteries. I don't like the drill enough to pay another $200 to keep it alive. I will just buy a third battery for my new Porter Cable and retire the Ryobi. The batteries still work for the flashlight for now.
