    Gotta new band saw . . .

Here's Mr. Wiley from UPS. A pleasant and helpful gentleman.

Wheeled the shipment right into the garage.

    Let's have a look now.

    It's a bandsaw alright.

The mobile base for the saw was good and solid but "universal". The manual recommended sandwiching two pieces of 3/4" ply and bolting them into the stand. Here are the glued plies now.

The stand was assembled and bolted down to the plywood base. Jester's such a good boy.

Machine in place now. Had to lay the saw and its stand over on their sides and then bolt them together, the thing was so heavy. After attaching the saw, I lifted the assembly upright.

    Everything in place now.

I told my wife I still love her.

Don't look too pleased with yourself now, Tim.
        Congrats.

P.S. the dog doesn't look all that impressed.

Great pics, and a great looking setup- never mind the saw, that's some mighty fine looking plywood you used for the mobile base!

              Congrats, Tim!

You now know you needed help with the assembly!

Thanks guys! It took a few days, but the saw is now set-up according to the very well written manual, including adjusting for drift. After spending a few years with my first bandsaw, a little Ryobi BS-900, it's like going from a pinto to a ferrari. One of my goals is to cut veneer. After the set-up was complete, this was my first attempt. (By the way, those are JimD's extension tables in the background, a quantum leap for that saw IMHO).

                  [IMG][/IMG]

Granted, this is only 2 1/4" hard maple. But with the Woodslicer blade from Highland Woodworking, the cut side is actually so smooth I think it's glueable as is.

Now here's where I was really surprised. This piece is 0.040 thick from one end to the other, and measured on both sides. It never varies more than a few thousandths and that was probably caused by variation in my feed rate. Square on four sides. I am extremely happy with this machine.

My only disappointment with the saw so far is the lack of tire brushes. I've seen lots of ways of doing this on the internet, but ended up doing it the way it probably should be done.

A large flat handled tooth brush from the drug store with its handle cut off was secured to an L-bracket with one screw and again with a bolt and lock washer. Then I drilled (sigh) through the side of the saw and bolted the bracket down, again with lock washers. Thanks to my wife for choosing the matching green toothbrush! Totally pro!

Great looking saw, Tim. Tell the missus she done good on the toothbrush color. I've lusted after one of those for years. In fact, I think that one was delivered to your house by mistake. I'll be by after the heat wave breaks to pick it up.

I know the feeling Tim. Got me the model just below that (Polar Bear Series) one back at Christmas time.

                        Congratulations!
