In my case, Santa's little elf took full advantage of a Woodcraft clearance, and brought me the Groz FP6, and JP7 planes. I know Groz planes are a mixed bag of machining sometimes, but so far, out of the box they look good. I didn't try lapping the sole, flattening the frog or anything like that yet, just cleaned the LARGE quantities of cosmoline off of the planes, checked flatness with known good and trusted straight edges, and then set the blade depth and took a few swipes with each. No blade chatter at all on either, nothing to cause any concerns at all aside from an obvious need for honing the blades as they are plenty dull. I did pop the dogs in the bench and took a few swipes at a mildly warped piece of oak I got from Home Depot a few years ago, decent shavings spilled out of the plane, and before I knew it, flat, wide lumber. Especially with the #6...
There was also a small assortment of the regular chocolates in the stocking, and a Rush Bass tab book... I think that one is a hint. I haven't played in too long...
So what did Santa leave under the tree with your name on it this year?
