    HF Nailers

Just got back from a visit to a new (to me anyway) HF store in Syracuse. Like a vast candy store or really more like a hugh Big Lots store. Anyway to the ?. I was looking at a crown staple air gun that had a crazy price of less than $20 with coupon. I am usually pretty hesitant in buying complicated power/air tools that are made in China. Where do you go when it goes belly-up after 6 or so months? Or being that cheap do you just s**t can it and get another? Has anyone out there had any experience with HF's air tools? Thanks for what ever advise you can come up with.

I have had the 18 guage brad nailer and the 18 guage brad/stapler combo for a few years. I have never used any other nailers, so take it for what it's worth, but I love both of them. I have gotten tons of use out of both. I paid less than $20 for each, probably less than $10 for the nailer.

One word of caution, DO NOT use the HF brads. Those are junk and will jam. I use Bostich from Lowes, and I rarely have a misfire or jam.

You can't go wrong with HF's return policy.

      I have and use:

      18 ga brad nailer (46309)
16 ga finish nailer (current item number is 66872)
23 ga pin nailer (current 97526)
      20 ga 1/2" crown stapler (current 97572)
      18 ga 1/4" crown stapler (current 97521)

The ones I have were purchased several years ago, and except for the 18 ga brad nailer, are different item numbers from what currently is listed. They generally look the same, with a few cosmetic differences.

I have been pleased with them, and would purchase each again if I had to. I've used HF branded fasteners, without the jamming issues mentioned by JoeyGee. I've also used Porter Cable fasteners without issue.

I have no complaints about any of them. Okay, maybe there's just one. The 1/4" crown stapler has the HF cosmoline stench that won't go away.

I have the HF finish nailer mentioned above. I abuse the snot out of it, using HF fasteners, and it keeps on chugging along...

I am heading over to HF to pick up the 21 degree framing nailer, and a couple of boxes of nails this weekend. I have a fencing project I am working that I don't want to manually nail up...

I have the 18 ga combo and have used it a lot, most recently with 1" staples on carpet. I'm with Joe in that I use the Bostich fasteners only. Never tried the ones from HF.
My only complaint was the safety mechanism. It is a 'was' because I removed it. I could not get it to fire a nail on much of an angle.
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?

I have the 6 in 1 framing nailer and I love it. I've shot about 3000 nails through it, without the first jam. I've shot the HF nails, Grip tite, and paslode with out problems. A word of caution on the HF nails. You mentioned that you were doing a fence, which would require galvanized nails. The HF galvanized nails are only electroplated, and not hot dipped. They rust pretty quickly. Spend the few extra bucks and get the hot dipped.

I have the 18 ga. brad nailer, 16 ga brad nailer, 15 ga finish nailer, and a couple of the stapler combos. The 18ga and 15 ga are by far the best of the group. I have used both extensively with no problems. I would and have recommended them without hesitation. The 16 ga is really nose heavy and the combos work but there aren't great.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

I have the 23ga pin nailer, works every time. I even use the HF pins without problem. Kind of hinting about an 18ga brad nailer or a narrow crown stapler.

I had one of their framing nailers. I don't remember the number, but it was an almost exact knowckoff of a Bostitch N80. I used it to finish two basements, build two decks, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I don't have it anymore because I "loaned" it to a coworker and he liked it so much that he kept it for over a year (fortunately, he felt guilty and bought it from me after that).

My dad has a bunch of HF nailers, so I've also used an 18 ga brad nailer and a roofing nailer. The brad nailer seemed to work fine, but I wasn't a fan of the roofing nailer. It jammed fairly regularly.

I have the 1/4" crown stapler/brad nailer gun that was less than $20.00. I have no complaints except for the color (purple) and it works great.
I haven't tried brads in it since I have a P/C brad nailer but, this way, everything stays locked and loaded.

I have several HF air nailers, every now and then I pull the trigger and nothing comes out, pull it again and it nails. Don't know why and it doesn't bother me. One thing though, the combo stapler/brad nailer uses the same hammer for both thus the brad has a big rectangle hole the size of the staple for a countersink. That does bother me so it rarely gets brads in it and I use another for brads. If I am doing trim work I keep long brads in one and short in another. That keeps me from forgetting what is in the gun and screwing something up with either a long brad that splits the casing out or a short one that fails to penetrate the sheetrock.

Ditto on the brad nailer. Had mine for a couple of years and never had a misfire. Have even used some of the brads that came with it.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Who makes a decent hot dipped galvanized nail for these guns?

Yes I would MUCH rather shoot hot dipped nails...
