    Question on miter saw brake

My brother has a 12" Craftsman miter saw, probably 7-9yrs old. It's making noise after he finishes the cut and thinks it is something with the brake.

Is there actually a brake shoe or does it work via the switch to make the motor run backward to slow/stop.

    TIA

i think they have electrical blade brakes, not mechanical.
Probably something like shorting out the field wiring when the saw switch is off.

Every once in a while, I'll get a mall piece of cutoff wood down in mine and it make a heck of a noise. Usually just lift it up, turn it over and shake it a bunch and the piece comes out and it's good to go again.

You pretty much just described 90% of the tech support work I now do on the PC's here at work.

Had a saw that made a noise like that, found the blade retention nut was not tight!
