    New Craftsman Portable TS

Interesting - looks like it may be built on the 21829 guts...

In time for the holiday season, Craftsman is adding a new Professional Jobsite Tablesaw to its tool line. The 10" saw features a 15-amp, universal motor, 24" of rip capacity, and a three-position blade guard that can be changed without tools. Find out more in the Hot Tool News blog.

If so, it could be a new Ryobi product in CM clothing, with interesting feature changes - notice the switch has moved form right-handed to left, and to accommodate, they made this a left-tilt instead of a right-tilt. Also shortened the arbor length to accommodae a 1/2in dado stack, and changed the blade guard. Priced at $330, I wonder if this is the harbinger of doom for the 21829, which is probably not flying off the shelves at $529.

From the looks of the table, it does indeed look like a Ryobi product. The table looks like yet another version of the BTS type of extnesions, as well as the measure on the front rail. As far as the 1/2" Dado stack, my BTS-21 takes a 5/8" which is okay, but 3/4 would be better...

At the price of the 21829, I would imagine it is sitting pretty still. However, I have personally been in store buying smaller items when two of them were sold...

Very interesting. I wonder if that blade guard is any good, or if it's just gimicky. I threw away my BT3100 blade guard, and would like a better one. Of course, knowing Sears' parts prices, a Shark Guard would be cheaper.

I just got my 21829 for $408.00. On sale for 479 with 15% off for using the Sears card. I will try and do a review of the saw some time after I have a chance to put it to some use. So far, raising and lowering the blade is much easier than on my 3100. Setting the SMT was so fast that I did it twice just to make sure I didn't miss something. I'm using my old rip fence and it don't pull to the left on setting like it did on the 3100.

from the pic it has a blade, table top etc in common with all other TS, but none of the specific features using the same parts of the BT3's.
I think its just another low cost ryobi model in C'man colors.

That blade guard is a clone of the new one on the Bosch TS model 4100. That's the only saw I would give up my BT for.

In fact, the whole table top design and fence design is the Bosch as well. The differences seem to be the wheels.
Heck for $330 I'd consider it heavily. The only strike I see is the 1/2" dado restriction, but I don't use a dado that much anyway, it's router and straight edge most of the time for me.

I've owned the 21829 for a couple years and couldn't be happier. I have reviewed it a few times, but the sometimes overlooked improvements over the BT3100 include:
                  • Longer rails
                  • Additional "back" position for the SMT fence
                  • Miter slots in the aux table - they can't be aligned to the blade, but they are very handy for feather boards and the like
                  • An amazing folding stand. Similar stands from other manufacturers cost $150+ alone*.

FWIW, Sears is lists the 21829 for $399 on thier website now. That is pretty close to what I paid for it 2 years ago.
