    miter saw blades

I am looking for a new blade for my 10" miter saw to replace the standard Dewalt 40T multi purpose blade. I want something that will crosscut cleanly but dont want to break the bank.

Does anybody know anything about the Porter cable Razor?

    http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ocStoreNum=480

At only $28 it seems too good to be true I wonder if 50T is enough to prevent tearout.

    Any other suggestions

I use them and love them. The tooth count is misleading as it is variable tooth. Ive used it on Melamine, Plywood and MDF all with great success.

      Price range?

While I have and like a LU85R010, right now it may be to high (but watch it on Amazon, it has been on sale before).

My neighbor bought its borg counterpoint, the Diablo 1080X and was happy with it.

that PC Razor blade was designed more as a general purpose blade than a special crosscut blade. Since Miter saws are used exclusively for crosscutting a purpose-made crosscut blade would be a better bet.

Something with a low to slightly negative hook angle and 60-80 teeth would be such a blade. The Freud blade lines are generally quite good.

If you want a really smooth cross-cut, I would start with 60 T on a 10" miter saw. I used to use the Freud 60 T on my SCMS, but sold it to get a 12 SCMS. I still use the Freud but in 72 T (which is equilavent to 60 T on a 10" saw) and have an Amana back-up in 72 T.

I cannot speak for the PC 40 as smooth or not as I have never seen it used.

This one should do a pretty good job, and Amazon currently is giving an additional 10% off on Freud:

It's not strictly a miter saw blade as the hook angle is around 15 degrees, but several of the user reviews show them using it on a CMS with good results..

              Poolhound,

I'm getting ahead of myself a little but if you can wait a week, I decided to bring in the Oshlun line of saw blades. Oshlun is the old Avenger that changed names when the owner died and new folks took over. I've tested the 40T GP blade with good results but would be willing to cut you a super deal on the 10" 60T crosscut blade if you would give me some good feedback. I think my regular price on this is $27 but don't have the exact number in front of me. Your cost to try it out would be much less than that and refundable if you didn't like it for some reason.

These blades have some nice features like thick carbide and copper plugs. PM me if interested and I'll throw you a price back.

              Thanks
              Brian

I use a Freud 60 tooth in my CMS. I just bought what was on sale at Amazon when I needed one. A key advantage is the ability to resharpen. It has a positive hook. I will probably never have a positive hook for my RAS again but for a CMS, I think a positive hook is OK. If it was a SCMS, I would think hard about a negative hook blade (so it would not pull itself into the wood).

A razor looks OK but not resharpenable.

                  Jim

Hi Jon - I haven't tried the Oshlun 60T, but I've given the 40T Oshlun a brief run. So far it's showing some promise as a really good blade, especially on crosscuts. It's very well made. In time and with more cuts I'll have a better feel for it, but as of now, I don't know how much better a blade in this price range could be.

                      Brian,
I would gladly try one and give you some feedback if you want more input. I have a large load of 10' long cherry coming in a couple of weeks and since my ceilings are only 8' (and my lumber storage is vertical) it will get plenty of use.

Thanks Mike, I'll send you an email when I get back to the office.

Thanks for the first hand post Dustmight. I've been leaning more toward higher end tooling lately but the Oshlun brand will bring me back to my roots on offering solid product at an exceptional value.

I have a Freud Avanti 96 tooth (12" blade). It's amazingly smooth and fast. Pricey but well worth the money. When I had it sharpened and went back to a generic $25 blade for a few days, I was not happy.
