Remove trash can separator?

I don't have a separator on my HF 2HP DC. I've only had it for a few months. I've heard plenty of "ding" sounds as small things hit the impeller, haven't blown it up. I did suck up a screwdriver once, but luckily that hose was still not clamped on and I quickly pulled it off the connector. That could have been ugly.

Anyway, I second the advice to just get a bigger separator. I'm going to add one. It will make me feel much more comfortable/confident when I use the DC as a vac for the floor and tool spaces.

Mine does not get emptied unless the separater get full then it bypasses to the DC bag. Works good with extra long flex hoses hanging from the ceiling too.
