Spam in my PM!

I got one while I was logged on a few hours ago and I caught the guy while he was online, then immediately banned him. I don't know how much PM was sent out. If anyone else got some, please let us know; post a note here. I kinda think he was checking people online, or it could have been that he was checking recent posts.

I also sent a note to the other moderators and administrators.

The irony is he was spamming an ad for spam software to let you spam other people.

Did this person hack into the site base to do this? I find it hard to believe that they would just pick names at random and then spend all that time to send out individual PM's. Have all of our email addresses been compromised?

No, it wasn't a hack. He simply signed up as a new member. I suspect he has been here before and was banned for spam. When I got the PM, I had been on our site for about 10 minutes and my PM was not there when I logged in. So it happened while I was online here and I was notified at the instant he sent it to me. I went immediately to his sign up page. There was a note saying what he was doing - writing a PM. So I banned him. I kind of assumed that he looked at the online people and clicked on them one at a time and sent PMs. If not that, he went to a thread and PMed the individual posters to a specific thread. He didn't get many done.

leehljp, thanks for the quick response. I know that email addresses are about as private as..............well they're not private at all are they? I was just curious if I was about to start receiving even more unwanted junk in my mail box. It sure would be great if scum bags like that would get a life.

We need to stop with the wimp approach, find where these scumbags are and physically drag them out of their chairs, roll them naked in thumbtacks and dip them in rubbing alcohol.

I'd just give his house address to my ex and tell her he was giving away free furniture... That would be all she wrote for him...
