    Cleanup and shop stuff.

So the other thread got sidetracked into 3D printing. Relevant as a good amount of the plastics on my BT now are 3D printed as the OE stuff is no longer available... But here is a wee bit of a spin on things...

As I mentioned I am setting up a new Voxelab Aquila X3 Max 3D printer, it is a 400x400x400mm printing area which is just obscenely large but I digress... Being alone in a 4BR house has its advantages. My original Aquila and the new big one are going into my wifes now abandoned office, because, well stinky stuff and loud cooling fans...

In the process, I dug out onf of the large 3 drawer Sterilite drawer units to house my collection of filament, filament vacuum bags, dessicant and vac, and on and on and on, you get the idea I hope...

Well this one never received its casters so I was going to throw the casters on it when I noticed my wife had thrown something in the bottom drawer,

4 Harbor Freight clear poly 3" casters with locks, and 4 without.

Yep the same exact casters I just bought 4 more of each for 3 weeks ago just showed up in the strangest of places...

Now given the oddity that it is, and I am not going to fuss too loudly about it, more like laugh, but I now have sufficient casters to finish all of the rolling tool flippers and benches I could possibly want.

So If I ever mention I am going for more Harbor Freight casters, please remind me I have some in stock...

The original box of casters from heaven only knows how long ago...

Recently bought more, only to find a set enough to do another cabinet in a box on the far side of the hosue in my wifes old office.
Put them in the stash in my toolbox.
    \\

While I was out there, moved the shop vac nest down a couple of inches to allow clearance to be able to stash the 16 gallon up there. I used to have a 12 gallon that I gifted to my late brother in law.

Not sure if I ever showed this forum the completed drill press stand, but this is the Bilt Hard 12" variable speed drill press. Same thing as the Ryobi DP121L that they screwed up and stopped making, or the Wen 4214, and it looks like Vevor has a model of it out now. I managed to land a super cheap short enough roller cabinet with wooden top. The drill press is bolted through and has huge fender washers on the back side of the tool box top. This thing is going nowhere any time soon.
    .

I know these are minor "accomplishments" but I am going to take any victories I can get these days...

So more progress, and a new toy for use around the house / shop.

One of the things keeping me from being as effectve as I can be in the cleanup is, well getting trash off the floor into the trash bag. Fighting to stoop over, pick up the bag etc... as you know I have back issues and need a little bit of assistance there... And I know my situation is not the same as many here, I know back issues are a COMMON issue with folks as they age, so I figured I would share my findings with you folks...

As mentioned previously I pickup up one of those extended reach pickup tools that allows me to pick things up off the floor, at least light enough things, without having to stoop over.

Cheap enough, and makes my life so much easier and cleanp actually more doable... I do however wish the ends of the pickup tool actually pinched together to help pick up things like dropped sheets of paper / envelopes for where the cat knocks papers off of a table...

But that left the trash bag to deal with. I had been trying to hang it off of corners of the larger tools to keep it off the floor with, well poor results.

Well I found a solution for that as well at a somewhat reasonable price. A metal wire frame trash bag holder. The spring action of the metal frame props the trasn bag open.

Not free obviously, but not terribly expensive, especially in todays economy.

I am finding both of these things so useful, I am considering getting a second one of each, one to keep in the house while I continue with the cleanup / remodeling, and the other for the shop. Once the remodeling is done, the trash bag holder for the hosue can be relegated to lawn and garden and stay in the shed...

Another item that is coming into heavy rotation is the Harbor Freight 15lb magnetic pickup tool. Sorry Harbor Freight does something wierd with their images and linking to them is a pain... So no pic... Anyway this little magnet on a stick really saved my bacon when I spilled out my 1/4" drive socket set while relocating the shop vac loft. (That stupidity was 100% on me...) Not the fanciest or prettiest tool, but it is helping me fill my bucket of hardware to find places it lives, and file hardware previously spilled on the shop floor back into their homes.

I have a pretty sizeable problem with my dust collecction ducting that will require some reconfiguration. The up the wall to the ceiling run is about 2' too far toward the back of the shop. Right where the mini split needs to be installed. I am going to have to pull the runs down, and reconfigure it so the upright gets run between the band saw and the water softener tank. this will keep any mounts away from wiring, and keep the duct away from the mini split. BUT, the elbows in the run are the adjustable sort, so no biggie, and I have spare split duct for the main run. I can rework it, better, faster, stronger than it, whoops, wrong show...

So progress is being made, slowly but surely. The corner the old Craftsman tool chest was in is almost cleared out. A "for now" rolling stand for the new 10" benchtop jointer is being built. The vertical legs are cut, the top is glued up and vastly imperfect, Stretchers are to be cut from the recycled pallet stock I have in my shop, and you have seen the casters to be used on this. Once it is assembled, and the corner cleared out 100%, the jointer gets moutned, and stowed in that corner when not in use.

I have a stack of pull out 12v lead acid batteries I need to take to get recycled. Including a very dead AGM for my truck. And the lead acid coach batteries for the camper. They need to GO!

Uusually when you replace a lead acid battery with a lead acid battery, the seller charges you for, and then gives back a core deposit. Since I went from lead acid to Lithium Iron Phosphate no such core charge was done, so not sure how to properly get these to a recycler..

I looked up "battery recycler" and found places that pay for them. I use Google Maps for searching and it always works easier than just Googling and trying to localize.

If you don't want the money, just take the old lead acid to any auto parts store or auto repair shop.

Hey DBHost, I just ordered one of those large bag holders. I hate using those large bags but I have to in cleaning up two or three times a year. Looking forward to using that. Thanks for posting. This is the first time I have seen this type of bag holder

I use the large bags because of our trash collection requires trash to be bagged. And large bags at least in my mind means less work to do swapping bags out. Really is no big difference in cost so...
