    Duct tape, as in describing its usage, was always a different tape from duck tape, the usually silvery stuff that you're talking about. If you use this household tape on ducts, it will fall apart quickly. Ask me how I've learned this. Gaffer's tape also looks like duck tape, but is again, very different. It's a special kind of non-reflective with a special easy release/clean adhesive that is super strong yet non damaging. If people didn't use the wrong term "duct" for duck tape, I wouldn't have used it for a duct job instead of actual duct tape, and failed.

    As with many things, branding and product names has varied over the years and is totally muddied now. I'm going to xerox a copy of this post on my HP digital scanner/printer behind me that's totally not a xerox, then go have a coke that's actually made by a totally unrelated company.
