I have an older model jointer that has no dust collector hood and I want to hook it into my pipe system. There is a hole under the cutter where the chips fall onto the top of the motor. There is not room between the bottom of the jointer stand and the motor to install a manufactured dust hood. Any suggestions?

what you often see is they put a ramp or chute over the motor to deflect the shavings off the motor. Then at the bottom of the chute a bulkhead 4" hose connector is mounted over the end of the chute.
It doesn't catch everything but most of it. JOinters ca make a lot of fluffy shavings.Loring in Katy, TX USA

Can you drop the motor? I did just that yesterday to mine to put a hood in with a hose.
Link belt from HF took care of the additional length.

One fix was just a removable box like this. The more common way was to create a way to channel the chips out with a ramp of sorts as done here.

Not intending to hijack the thread, but might you have any more details/plans on the actual mobile base component? It looks similar to a roll-around tool base from Wood, but with mods to the cam-lever mechanism.
I presume the mods improve the lifting capability of heavier loads?
Is there a lever on either end?
Thanks

Quick answers to your questions for now:
1. It is based on the Wood magazine mobile base.
2. The mods to the lift lever made it easier to lift heavier tools but the main reason was that in the original design by Wood the pivot bolt kept backing out, making the lever loose.
3. The lever on the left is was in the way of attaching the DC hose to the chip chute. (Design screw up on my part.) Easier to remove the lever once it is on the feet than to go back and rebuild the entire base!Don, aka Pappy,

Wow, Pappy I had not seen your jointer before. You did an excellent job not only on the design and build of the base, but on restoring the old Delta. That top looks flawless!I think in straight lines, but dream in curvesComment

I put a dust shoot on yesterday that I got from Woodcraft. Put in on with epoxie. The sucker is never going to come off.Comment

I dropped the motor and got a new belt and walla. All fixed. The dust hood now works perfect.Comment
