check list to close shop for the night

So the thread on compressor habits leads me to think of a check list for shutting down the shop for the day (or night)

    Whats on your list?
Do you have a written checklist?

    My usual (mental) check list

Unplug all portable air tools and put away
Unplug portable electrical tools and put away
Put away hand tools and measuring devices
Loosen the tension on the bandsaw blade
Leave the Air cleaner running for a couple of hours on timer
Clear nozzle of any spray can products used
Close top on any cans of paint/finish & place brushes in plastic baggies
    Close glue bottles.
Shut off the compressor (and maybe drain it and release pressure)
    Turn of task lights
Turn off the fan and ceiling lights
    Close and lock the door.

Since I'm the only one to go in the shop, it's locked and no kids, I don't
    unplug all stationary power tools
and remove all locking switch keys.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I do have kids and my shop is in my garage, so I never leave a tool plugged in, unless I am in the process of using it. I am fanatical about it. I always unplug something even if I am just walking away for a few minutes. I also have a rule that I will not plug a tool in unless I have my safety glasses on.

As far as a list before I leave, I really don't have one, but I know I should.

My list is pretty similar, except I add "pull out splinters and wipe blood off floor."

Pretty much the same, except tools sit around wherever I laid them down until:

        A. The project is finished, or

        B. There's no where else to put anything.

I have the problem of putting too many things away while I'm still building the project and then having to pull them out again. It just gets too cluttered for me. If I'm not in project mode I put things away immediately after using them, I never leave pneumatics plugged in but I should be better about removing the safety keys from the switches (but it sure is a pain when I am).

            i basically
            • unplug everything when i am closing for the night. i also wrap the wire and put it next to the machine or around the tool so that no one picks up the plug and sticks it into the socket.
            • unhook and release air is my hose and turn valve off at compressor. i dont releases the pressure in the tank, but after reading the post the other day, i might start doing that now.
            • make sure all cans are closed tightly and glue is closed and put away.
            • make sure that all hand tools or heavy and breakable objects are not on the edges of any tables so that they dont fall if someone else other than me walks by.
            • i am like mildoc, i dont put tools away until i am done or i have run out of room. i need to change this because i am constantly looking for my tools especially the smaller ones!
            • i usually sweep up the big stuff and do the final cleaning at the end of the project or at the end of a major phase in the project.

              1. Set Ambient Air Cleaner to run for 30 minutes.
              2. Place auto start Dust Collector units switch in off position.
              3. Make sure compressor is in off position.
              4. Turn off the lights.
              5. Set alarm.
              6. Lock door

Have a detached shop my list is pretty simple

Un plug and put away all hand power tools.

Put all the other tools away

                Clean up the sawdust, Vacumn.

                Turn off the radio

                Turn out the lights

Lock the door, I have the only key, the spare is in the safe

Go in the house set the alarm.

One other thing when Grand kids are here, turn off the circut breakers, un plug the power tools and take the safey locks out. They use the shop like play house. We do have shop projects for the oldest Grandson (6) but only under strict supervision.

To help keep the universe in balance, I offset Rod Kirby. I've actually spent 20 minutes in my garage looking for the lawn mower.

                  Shutdown procedure.
Move the crap out of the way of the garage doors so they'll close
Try to get out around the rest of the crap without breaking my neck.

Go back in later and turn off and drain the compressor after I hear it cycle three or four times.

I turn off the lights and AC units/heater and lock the door.

Question for you folks that unplug things. I'm not knocking it, just curious.

                    Why????

Most of the previous list, plus:

                      1. Close all drawers on my mechanic's tools rollaway and lock both sections.
                      2. Close and lock windows, and close the blinds.
                      3. Laptop computer turned off and unplugged.
                      4. Make sure miter gauge is in the slot on the saw, with the near end set flush with the front end of the table.
                      5. Rip fence positioned so the indicator is at exactly 7" on the scale.
