    Router bit vise

    Yeah use this bit vise while changing the bearing, keeps you from slicing your fingers holding the bit trying to get the bearing off. Everyone should have one!

    Also holds the bit for honing, changing/servicing the bearing, and changing/assembling bits with stacks of cutters.

      I certainly need one.

      My process in the past was to put one in a router and use the lock - Hold the lock in with one hand - and unscrew the Allen head screw with the other. I have done that dozens of times.

      I have two whole sets of bearing and spacer for bits that allow it, and that has allowed me to do an assortment of configurations in the past. I could not find my shaft end bearing once (bearing at the top instead of the bottom), and had on hand a 1/4" locking spacer. I added the correct bearing to the top and then added the locking spacer above it and it worked fine. That was a good 25 years ago.

          Hank, I will send you one. I have a couple of extras I made, earlier versions. I need to send you the miter fence clamp, too.

          Its not just taking off the Allen screw, but also getting the bearing off the shaft is a tight fit and requires persuasion if it hasn't been off in a long time. And also you can use the vise to hold the bit while touching up the cutting edges with a diamond file.

              Similarly, I sliced a finger pretty good when changing bits in the router and my grip slid along the cutter. Since then, I always position my fingers away from the cutters or grip with a rag so that won't happen. One of those rare occasions where I learned my lesson the first time
