    6" thin wall PVC pipe

    I need about 2 feet of 6" thin wall pipe/tube, something like 6" S&D for a project.
Where could I pick it up for a few bucks? I don't want to have to buy 10 feet for $15 or $20 and I haven't even seen it around in any lengths.

Lowes didn't have any 6" S&D. 6" schedule 40 is only in 10' lengths and expensive.

    Any ideas?

check with McCoy's. They sell short lengths of pvc, but I don't know if they have anything that big.

If they don't, call around to some local plumbing shops. Most of them will have 'drops' laying around.

Some HDs sell cut lengths, and Ace hardware stores often sell cut lengths as well.

Your local freecycle list or craigs list might be good options as well - you could post a "wanted" request, somebody probably has it laying around and would be happy to get rid of it.

4.5' at McMaster Carr for $18 and change plus shipping. Sell what you don't need on Ebay. Others might be looking for shorts too.

You probably will have better luck finding a short piece of SDR-35 PVC Sewer Pipe as it is much more common. 6" S&D pipe and SDR-35 pipe both have the same OD so if weight and ID aren't that important for your project the SDR-35 will work.

Not sure about the west side of Houston Metro area, but down here in Galveston County you could get Kilgore's Lumber Company on FM518 to cut you off a chunk. I think the Ace Hardware on Bay Area Blvd will do the same...

So I would say check with whatever local Ace Hardware dealers you have near you...

I second the SDR. I used just that when I installed some drainage on the property some years ago. I wish I still had some scraps! If there is any site work or grading in your area, you can check with the foreman and see if they will be using any. The sticks I used were 20' lengths with a bell end, so you may not be able to find a small section to buy off the rack. Another thing to point out, in my area at least, only certain supply houses actually have over 4" in stock, the rest need to either order it or get from another house.

Try calling an underground utility contractor. For no more than what you need, they might just give it to you. I'm not sure what the economy is like in south Texas right now, but you could look around for a subdivision going in or a commercial site going in and talk with the site contractor and find some.

You could also check with your local municipalities to see if they are doing any underground utilities in the area, then check with the contractor that won the bid for the project.

Loring, I'm pretty sure you can pick this up quick and more than likely free if you explore these posibilities. Good luck!

You could try an agricultural irrigation contractor in your area. You are looking for sdr32.5 (class 125) or sdr41 (class 100) pipe. They use it as mainlines and laterals

Cabinetman is correct. Any good plumbing supply house will sell you a short length.

                        6" thin wall pvc pipe

You might want try an electrical contractor and see if he has any emt in that
size. The pvc should be cheaper than the steel pipe of the same size.

Plumbing Contractor yes, Supply House not so much. A real Plumbing Supply House has no interest at all in cutting any kind of pipe that they sell. They are only interested in selling full lengths be it PVC, PEX, Steel, Copper, etc. At least that's the way it was for the 30 years at the Supply House I worked at.

A plumbing contractor may not carry any supplies at all, but rather sub out the work and materials.

In my parts of FL, full sticks only from supply house and 6" tends to be less common. Of course, by now Loring has either got it or worked around it ;-)
