I think its jatoba - Brazilian Cherry.
This piece didn't want to drill too well - sort of shattered when the 2nd hole drilling intersected the first hole. THis was the 2nd or third piece I drilled.
Was holding the piece in a angled machinists vise clamped to my drill press table with a MLCS brad point drill bit. Used the depth stop on the DP.
Hole in the side grain is 5/8" at a 8.5° angle off vertical. Hole in the end grain is vertical (0 degrees).
Slowed down the feed rate in the rest of them, when I knew I'd be intersecting the first hole.
Good thing i cut a few extras... as usual.
Anyone want to guess what this is part of?
