    A little problem drilling...

This is part of the project I'm working on...
I think its jatoba - Brazilian Cherry.

This piece didn't want to drill too well - sort of shattered when the 2nd hole drilling intersected the first hole. THis was the 2nd or third piece I drilled.

Was holding the piece in a angled machinists vise clamped to my drill press table with a MLCS brad point drill bit. Used the depth stop on the DP.
Hole in the side grain is 5/8" at a 8.5° angle off vertical. Hole in the end grain is vertical (0 degrees).

Slowed down the feed rate in the rest of them, when I knew I'd be intersecting the first hole.

Good thing i cut a few extras... as usual.

Anyone want to guess what this is part of?

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I can fix that. Some Titebond and some filler, it will be good as new. Worst case scenario, wrap it in some duck tape.

Ah very good. I did not see the Woodcraft magazine article but I saw this

            Marbles and Blocks set.
The Lee Valley description handily gives many of the dimensions you need to build the pieces.
