    small etchet glass insert panels?

I gave LOML a nice Cherry jewelry chest, sort of a mini armoire, with fold out wings for necklaces and stuff. The wings on this chest have pretty rose patterns etched in fairly small glass panels. (Approx 3" wide x 10" long). One of the panels has broken, and I am trying to find a suitable replacement. I can get the glass panels, but they are simply plain ones. I seem to recall some sort of kit way back when, that would allow you to print out a vector art design from programs like Corel Draw or whatever, and create a, well stencil I guess. For a DIY acid etching.

    Does anyone here know...

    A. What I am talking about. And...
    B. Where to get the stuff, and instruction on how to do it?

I would LOVE to fix and upgrade this for LOML for Christmas this year... Maybe use some Liquid Leaf for highlighting of the petals or something...

Check out Michael's. They have the glass etching cream. Maybe in the same
area they have the vinyl masks, too.

I would think you're going to have some trouble coming up with an exact pattern match?

What about a dremel etching tool, I think they're about $15?
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

Wasn't going for an exact match. Was going to redo both sides with a new design.

This may sound funny but find someone with a Cricut machine. Find a scapbooker. With the machine you can cut a pattern. And the window etch can be found online through the Cricut website or on Ebay for a few dollars.

            Cool little machine.

My wife has a Cricut machine. If I know approximately what you're looking for, maybe she can run one off. Of course I'll need your address if we do that.

If you have a crafts center anywhere nearby see if they have a sand-blasting (etching) cabinet machine. Our local arts and crafts center has several of them; you just draw or trace your desired pattern on an adhesive contact paper, place the paper on the glass, then use an xacto type knife to cut the tape in the areas where you want your pattern to be etched. Then hold it inside the etcher cabinet and use the sand-blasting gun to etch away the exposed areas.

You can see a sand-blasting cabinet here and here.

If you have just a bit more etching to do you might also consider the mini sand blaster for $52.00 (it's farther down toward the middle of the page, item # 4814A)

If I remember correctly from my chemistry classes of many years ago, hydrofluoric acid, HF, is used for etching glass. You might contact a glass dealer or sign shop to see if they have it available or a community college with a chemistry dept. might help. Be careful when using acids.
