    "Exotic" sources of wood

I am building furniture from plywood, which I get from BORG. Usually it's 3/4"x4'x8' Red Oak. I finish edges with edge banding. Sometimes it does not work for curved edges and I need to get some real oak stuff. Again in BORG it is pretty expensive. I tried to find good lumber yard locally, but could not (I am not a pro, just a hobbyist). Thus, source of good wood is little bit problematic for me.
I was doing organization in my garage and found whole box of unused oak hardwood, leftover, when I did hardwood in my house. I realized that I can use it. I started to make cabinet door frames out of floor hardwood and it worked pretty well. Now I am even thinking getting unfinished floor planks, or would like to build cd shelf/rack out of bamboo flooring.
Anybody does that? Any other unusual and affordable sources?
    Let's talk on that matter.

I have used new and used hardwood flooring in face frames and in other projects.

Keep a close watch on your local CL for folks selling off their stock. Over the years I have picked up quite a few really excellent gloatworthy deals. I now have a great stock and have to be carefull what I look for on CL as LOML has banned me from buying any more as I am running out of places to store it and she says NO to it laying around the living room.

Pretty unreasonable if you ask me - its not as if its engine parts

I just checked your local DC CL and here is an example of what I mean.

I have no idea what this guy has or whether its worth what he is asking but you get the idea. its also worth looking at the tool ads for ones that say "woodshop closing" they probably have wood for sale also and even their offcuts/shorts may be great for you.

Here is another. $2/bdft for 8/4 walnut is pretty darn good.
