Not trying to hijack this thread, I have never used a template YET but plalning to, so I find this thread usefull. I was wondering if you need to coat the MDF once you get it to where you want it. I would think MDF would flake off little bits here and there.Ric

Thanks all. Used the spindle sander to get most of the template edges but had some problems with gouging on some parts.
Took Loring's advice and ordered the Griz 1" belt sander. Great advice! Without the platen the belt flexes nicely, and the 1" width is perfect for smoothing the edges even more, even on curves, without gouging.
Taking it slow. 4 made, 9 more to go.Comment

Loring -- one other thing I love about BT3Central.
Showed LOML your suggestion re: using a 1" belt sander.
Her response: "Well, you've gotten good advice there before. Why don't you get one?"
She recognizes good advice when she sees it, too!!
