Amazon has some good deals... I want a machine but space is a problem... An attachment seems like the best solution... so far it has been drill out and square up with chisels.....

Sent a PM. I have a delta 17-924 that I've used once. I bought a Festool domino and haven't touched it since. My brother in law has one just like it if I ever do need it.

Can you solve the problem with a router?

Check with Woodnet.net, There was a guy selling new Jet Tools sets about 2 days ago for $10 + shipping in their tool section.

I have and use a drill press attachment style. I did make my own jig for the table but it works really well. One thing you will find you will need is a way to sharpen your tools. I picked up a kit at Rockler, comes with cones and flat diamond files. Be sure to set the speed for the type of wood your'e using as well.

If you can make space or can find a good deal a dedicated benchtop mortiser is far superior to a floor drill press solution. The fence issue is significantly easier to resolve than the leverage issue.

Even with sharp chisels you're going to throw some serious weight into the first hole, if your drill press has smaller arms you're going to have to multiply the force required to get the first one done.

I have an AMT Mortising Attachment, model A732 that I bought and never used, just opened the box to look at it and then put it away. I have the instructions for it. I also have two 1/4" cut bit and chisels, model A528, to go with it. How about $10 plus shipping for all? PM me if you're interested. I'm leaving on Vacation June 7th and will be gone till the 16th so time is of the essence.

                Ozzie

PS: I believe AMT is out of business also. Just to be honest about it.

The company is still in business, but they no longer make or support the tools. They have "fallen back" on their original business of making pumps.

Thanks for the response folks. I am looking at a couple of dedicated mortisers, I might try to sell some parts from my spare BT3K to pay for it. Is there anything anyone is looking for .
I will post a classified ad for the parts.

                        Mortiser found.

I ended up getting a ShopFox W1671 locally. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I am still looking for some chisels, if anyone has a set they want to part with.
                        Thanks Again.
