THere's this thing from the phone company in the backyard. Good looking, no?

Built an octagonal column plant stand that fits over it and holds a potted plant.
Used the Birdsmouth router bit.

The joint - the gap looks bad, but that's not bad because these were 33" long glue-ups..

Decided it needed something of interest on the side, had a small star I made and used it as a router template - this is the test cut:

Holding 8 long pieces glue up was a bear... one doing it fast enough before it set and getting them all aligned. Even with two other sets of hands it was a losing battle like corralling monkeys until I recalled how I did it the time before... using masking tape to just align the corners. Then I threw some bungee cords around it to provide some clamping pressure while it set up.

Put a brace across the top with pocket hole jig, added some dowels to seat the top.

Here's how it turned out... going to put it over the junction box tomorrow when its light out.

I wonder if the service man will be able to find his junction box? Doesn't bother me, I cut the cord a few months ago.
My hat's off to the guy that thought up that router bit. It was a cool idea.
