Made it with two grooves for small and larger dowels; I paste waxed the grooves edges to make spinning the dowel easier.
Now, this is what we are after - consistency uniformity and speed of making:
Superglued the thin stock on the end. Much easier than What I did on the original shown below:
You can make one in about an hour or less. Scrap wood (8" of 1x3) and a 90 degree x 1/2 inch dia grooving bit and router.
