    New wood frame

Just a small piece--a frame made from quality pine, profiled using router ogee profiles, finished with 2 coats Danish oil then paste wax.

BTW have I mentioned how much I love Danish oil? Nothing brings out the wood grain like Danish oil IMO. For a simple finish I just top off with paste wax, but sometimes for a more vintage or warmer finish I will put on a few of coats of shellac, usually one coat amber then a couple clear.

The painting is done by a friend of mine who is a retired physician. When he had to retire because of a neurological condition, he took up painting and paints several watercolors a day, virtually all of which he gives away to friends.

    That's really quite nice!

At first glance I would have never guessed it was pine. Very nice lines, as it catches the light well and I find the tone rather attractive.

Great job and I'm glad you posted it.

    Thanks,

    CWS

Very well done. The frame compliments the painting nicely and neither overshadows the other.

Thanks--yeah I admit I love pine. A quality pine board or especially old growth pine has a very nice color and grain. Good old knotty pine has its place as well.

I haven't made a frame for awhile but I have to relearn a couple of tricks of the trade, since it's a little different from typical box joinery.

This is actually a warmup for a larger frame with a floating picture, since the actual painting (this is a reproduction) is painted on both sides surprisingly. Very simple, slightly industrial look--pine with 2 coats Danish oil, a coat of slightly amber shellac and then a few coats of clear shellac. The frames are slanted about 10 degrees--identical pieces clamshelled around the glass and picture and attached together with screws. I'll post pics when finished.

The frame and painting are both very nice and complement each other perfectly.
