Just a small piece--a frame made from quality pine, profiled using router ogee profiles, finished with 2 coats Danish oil then paste wax.
BTW have I mentioned how much I love Danish oil? Nothing brings out the wood grain like Danish oil IMO. For a simple finish I just top off with paste wax, but sometimes for a more vintage or warmer finish I will put on a few of coats of shellac, usually one coat amber then a couple clear.
The painting is done by a friend of mine who is a retired physician. When he had to retire because of a neurological condition, he took up painting and paints several watercolors a day, virtually all of which he gives away to friends.
