Built from a Woodsmith plan with only scale and finish modifications - original plan was one unit (white painted poplar with maple cap); I made three to go together to cover an entire wall in a library.
Construction notes:
Full oak plywood case and shelves with solid oak face frame. Top cove molding formed on the table saw. Black inlays in vertical fluting are glue-on oak banding (ripped to 1/4" width on the table saw and individually stained with black India ink before being glued into flutes.) Vertical fluting in face frame cut with a router and jig, the design for which was provided in the Woodsmith plan.)
Finish: 3 coats oil-based polyurethane (all non-black parts) and 3 coats water-based polyurethane over India ink (black parts.)
Size: 7ft tall x 9ft wide x 1ft deep.
Took about 6 months (on and off) to complete.
The keen-eyed will observe that I have replaced the original picture background; no sense in ruining a good shot with shop clutter!
