    On-Air Light Thank You Gifts

We recently finished a pretty major remodel of our TV studios at work. During the demolition phase I grabbed 5 RCA On-Air lights before they went in the trash. They were installed over the doors of the studios to indicate to folks that the room was in use and that silence should be observed.

I've been holding onto these for about a year with the intent of turning them into some sort of memento for our staff who worked on the project. I finally got them finished. 2 are cherry and 3 are walnut. They are finished in Danish Oil. I ripped the incandescent light fixture guts out and installed LED strip lights. I think they turned out very nicely - certainly was nice to save something this cool from the trash. I'm going to give them to the staff at our next meeting.

Those are awesome looking. Nicely done on the refurbishment. I could use something like that to let my wife and kids know when I'm on conference calls when working from home.

Classy looking. That would have been a real shame to lose those to the trash.

Wonderful save, and a great idea on what to do with what otherwise would have been trash! I bet the recipients will love those!

For what it's worth, those On Air signs get a pretty penny on Ebay. I've been looking for something similar for my home studio to let my wife know when I am recording. A slightly different model that says "Recording" instead of On Air, is currently being bid on for $535.00, so yeah, letting those hit the trash is insane.
