    Cherry Tiny Table

Photo of my latest Tiny Table made from storm damaged cherry.
First, I apologize for not posting plans and dimensions of this table like I promised, but I've been buisy, but will get it done.....when I figure out how!
Most every table I build I try something different, recently I have been applying a shelac seal coat before I wax the table. This table I changed my wax brand to Miguires gold class. I think I like it.
I've got to get to work making usable wood out of the stack of cypress and pine I picked up last week, that will take about a week, then I will change my table size and design some more.

Very nice looking and work. I have probably 200 - 300 bf of cherry just waiting to be made into something like that! Beautiful and well done!

I can't decide what is my least favorite wood to work with. It's a close call between pine and cherry. Pine resin ruins my sanders and blades. Cherry doesn't have the resin problem but burns really bad causing way too much effort to prevent it and to correct the burns.

I fear that someone sits on one of these splayed legged tables like it was a stool and busts a leg, getting a spear somewhere it doesn't need to be!

Looks great! I also really like the finish, did you stain it?If yes, what stain did you use?

As careful as I can be if I glue up the tables there will be somewhere that glue has touched a piece and stain will not take. So now I sand all table parts and stain before I glue up. This way I just have to be careful not to get stain on the mortise and tenon leg/apron connections, that's easy enough. ( does anybody know if titebond 2 will adhere to stained wood? Hadn't tried it to see) This saves a lot of time. Any glue that squeezes out on the stain is quickly wiped off with a wet rag and does not seem to effect the finish. I usually apply another stain coat after the glue up because I want it darker. This table has a wipe on coat of shellac over the 2 applications of gunstock color stain. Then a generous coat of Meguires gold standard wax.

A couple of years ago there was a thread on BT3 discussing selling items that members made. My Tiny Tables are sold through an art gallery in Apalachicola Fl. I found that location just by luck. We were scouring the shops there for "treasures" and the owner of this gallery struck up a conversation with my wife, she told the owner that I had been making some cute tables for a gift shop down the coast. The owner replied that we don't sell furniture, but to be nice she said she would like to see them. I brought in 3 pretty pine and chinaberry tables that I had in the car for her to see and a couple of her customers and her employees saw them and bought them on the spot. She said, these tables do compliment the pottery and other art here and shouldn't be called furniture. So far she has sold one of 2 a month since Jan. She will not sell my painted coaster tables or the glass cutting board tables that are so pretty, just the solid wood finished tables. That does not rush me to build a bunch, just what I want to build and to change the design a bit here and there and try other woods, and the sales pay for the wood and supplies and new tools. We go down there every other month anyway. Since this started I have found a man that has a hobby sawing and curing wood that he cuts local and gets from local tree removal services. Good prices and some very interesting woods. Not exotics but wood you won't find at regular sawmills. I'm going to try some tables out of Dogwood, Camlia, Holley and Camfer next.
