    Kitchen et al

Moved to a house with no kitchen whatsoever... Just some bashed in sheetrock for walls and 3 pipes sticking out on the floor.

I like M&T joints and have built many pieces using it but this was the first haunched tenon for me. Scored some local cherry at a good price, the rest is maple ply dado'd together.

Please excuse the fast, cheap and easy counter-top. Temporary while the CFO decides on exactly what she wants to do.

A WAY before picture at the end..

Nice looking work...done well. Is the CFO happy? At least you didn't have to do a tear out.

Very nice. I've built a kitchen but did not use real mortise and tenon joints - I just used router table cope and stick joints. This is stronger and should last longer.

Beautiful cabinets and some nice figure in the Cherry panels. What are the upper inserts?

I assume there will be some matching base cabinets forthcoming.

                        wow

gorgeous! Did you cut the glass panels yourself, or take them to a glass shop? I'm planning a glass-panel door, but am not sure if the glass is a DIY job.

Looks great. Bet the wife will want some under cabinet lights when she starts working in the new kitchen. Good job.

cabinetman: CFO happy (so far). I thought the same thing when I got started "at least I don't have to tear out some old crappy kitchen!"

tommyt654: We were going for an arts & crafts / mission sort of style.

Pappy: Working on the lowers now. Hope to have them done very soon. (we all do)

chopnhack: I was going to get some cherry plywood but I resawed a few board and struck pay dirt. Nice curley cherry. Some tung oil, shellac and some clear yielding nice results.

tlt: We got the glass from hobby lobby locally. As long as you have a nice new cutter and some oil the cutting is pretty easy for straight panels. Practice on some cheap glass first. With a straight edge it's a snap..

conwaygolfer: we've been looking at lights. when you back light the stained glass it's really cool looking.

Thanks for all the kind words folks.

A couple of more questions, please, Bill. That looks like some pretty rugged screen - is it about a 1:3 pass through? Did you get it at a big box store? Also, what does the haunch offer in stability? Do you think that it was worth the extra effort? That kitchen sure is fantastic. Congrats on the truly professional job!
