Here are some construction details:
The corner columns (Corner Post Construction) were machined from 3/4 inch cherry at a router table. The dados were cut with a 1/4 bit and the inner service was cut with a 45 degree miter bit. I machined long segments which were then cut to length. Copious use of feather boards is recommended.
Top and bottom pieces (two pictures) are planed down to approximately 1/4 thickness and the edges routed out to just fit inside the box. Corners were cut out with a sharp chisel.
I have also used corner pieces made from 1/2 inch but the machining of the columns proved a bit more touchy. See last picture.
