    Jewelry Box

Every pretty grand daughter (aren't they all pretty) needs a jewelry box to keep the treasures she acquires over the years.

I happened upon an exceptionally nice piece of maple, with plenty of grain, waves, and some splatting. It was large enough to make all four sides, including two drawer fronts. The top is a maple frame with a cherry insert. The knot in the cherry was filled with epoxy and sanded smooth. I also wanted some contrasting colors. Outside trim on top and bottom and the handles on the sides are walnut. Drawer faces are maple and the bodies are birch; the dividers are hickory. It awaits a choice of velvet for the drawer bottoms and a mirror for the inside of the lid.

Everything is finished with three coats of clear shellac and three coats of fast dry polyurethane (MinWax). Knobs are solid brass for Lee Valley.

    Thanks for looking, regards, Steve

Steve - beautiful wood, great simple design(yours?), and obviously made with loving pride. It doesn't get any better than making something for loved ones.
I thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken.

Awesome Steve, the first pic made me think the side was walnut burl, very nice wood indeed. Your finish is beautiful as well. Great work
