    Fun with a Plug Cutter

    Holiday gift time -

My wife gave me marching orders for Christmas gifts to give this year ... ciabatta bread size cutting boards. Each one will be personalized for the recipient. Here is the first one - for a sailing enthusiast. Maple with walnut Big Dipper and North Star. 11.5" X 7". She will also give fresh olive tapenade to the sailor and his wife, so I made some spreaders.

    Back to the shop ...

LOML is making a mess of Amish Friendship bread to give out as Christmas gifts to friends at our church. I might just have to do something similar...

Cool idea! Your project is very nice too. Love the shape of the spreaders. What sort of finish did you go with?

Very nice. Do the plugs go clear through on the cutting boards?

What a "neat" idea! I can sure see "plugs" in my future.

                  Thanks for the compliments, guys.

                  dbhost and Erik:
I used mineral oil on both. Feel free to copy the shapes. I attached .pdf's. Select "Page Scaling = None" when printing to print at actual size, or scale as needed. Print two copies of the cutting board and tape together at the centerline. Layouts for both horizontal and vertical strips are shown. I cut the side and top profiles of the spreader on my bandsaw and shaped with my belt/disk sander.

                  jking:
The plugs do not go all the way through. They were cut with a set of tapered plug cutters and are less than half the thickness of the board.

                  Loring:
I take full credit for this one.

                          Very cool,

If a person has alergies to nuts would this be a problem with a walnut or part walnut cutting board?
