    Rocking Horse Finished

Ok! It's finally done!!! This is my first hardwood project and first "finished" project posted here.

The plans are from J. Linck. I selected the walnut specifically for its grain and character. The finish is simply walnut oil!

Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.

WOW! Where were you when I was a kid?

    Beautiful wood and beauiful work.

          Very Cool

If I ever had a rocking horse that nice would probably be a cowboy and live in Texas.

It is really a nice job. Great workmanship and I like the dowel construction.

Pictures make it look like Walnut, is it?. It is I just went back and re read the words. The pictures were impressive enough I missed the verbiage first time through

Thanks all for the positive comments. Shoottx, you are correct, that is absolutely walnut with walnut dowels. I found a slab some 40 miles from home at a lumber yard and had him resaw it down for me to 5/4.

                CNH,
I've seen his work, and you've done a great job with it. Hope you send him a picture, he might put it out on his website. Well done!

Looks great, it'll get some great use and abuse, I'm sure! I love the figure on the belly. I'm not going to show this to LOML, or I may have yet another project on the list.

I'm thinking you need to change your username! That is simply beautiful. That should last several generations. Are you saying all of that came from the same slab that was re-sawed? If so that was one nicely figured board! A job well done!

While my Dad never did anything quite that big for Christmas gifts for us kids, he did shop build a lot of our Christmas presents. Sure we got GI Joes, and fishing rods and stuff, but I still remember the Biplane, toy trucks, and toy cars my Dad made for me that I would find under the Christmas tree.

My hope is that your little one can look back 35 years from this Christmas, and remember so fondly how much he or she meant to you that you would go out of your way to put the time and effort into such a beautiful piece. And just maybe, be handing it down to their son or daughter, along with the story of how Grandpa built this himself...
