    Father/ Daughter Project

Daughter number one loves to hang around in the shop with me. She is 15 and spend many evenings working on the shed door project of this past summer. Recently she wanted to build bird houses. I went out and bought some cedar and found a good bird house project that we could do in a night or two. After some safety talks about using power tools, we started at it. Daughter #1 helped with the CMS and the table saw, although she let me do most of the cutting. She had no problem with the drill press though.

Here she is counter sinking the roof parts.

She found the ROS tickled her up to her elbows(lol).

Everything was glued and screwed together.

And the screw holes were filled with plugs.

    The final project.

The "house" portion is actually a can, sandwiched in the cedar and pinned in place by a 1/2" dowel running the length of the bird house and extending as a perch. We finished it with a coat of tung oil and spray enamal for the can.

Thanks for having a look. My daughter says who needs shop class when she has me

She looks very focused on her work. Nice Job! I am currently building a bird feeder with my granddaughter who just turned 7 for her Mommy. Its a lot of fun watching them have a good time and learn some skills as well.

You obviously have NO idea how to raise a 15 year old daughter. I mean, come on, she WANTS to spend time with you???

Seriously, I think it's awesome! And she has a good teacher, she done good. She's a lucky gal.

You really expect us to believe this was voluntary? What did you have to pay to get her to spend time with the 'old man'??????

She does look to be into the task at hand. To ease her up a notch, suggest some custom shelves or shadow boxes for her room.

I love the look of concentration on her face. Its very cool working togther like this.

My daughter graduated ASU this summer and while she has technically been out of the house for 4 years we are now facing the "moving-away" issue as she is strongly considering heading to Chicago.

Nice job, and what's really impressive is that she stayed around once the sander came out. My girls disappear faster than money from a politician's hand once it's time to start sanding.

My hat is off to you.

The birdhouse looks great. The father/daughter time even better.

Very nicely done! It's great to see the young lady working so intently.... Please don't take this the wrong way--when I was much younger I thought there was nothing sexier than a woman who knew how to use tools. Just think how impressed Future Husband will be when she says, "Yeah, I built the six Windsor chairs and the matching table." If he's not impressed, he's not the right guy.

You may have to build a large stick to chase away her suitors...

That is so cool. I had one of my grandaughters "help" me in the shop once. She was so cute in her glasses and ear muffs. It was hard to say who had more fun that day.

                              Very Cool

This is like one of those Mastercard ads.

                              Lumber $5.00
                              Can $0.37

Spending several evening with your 15 year old in the shop,

                              Priceless!

It is great to have a daughter spending time with dad.

I think John of Extreme Bird House fame may have some future competition
