On a separate note... That looks like a late 1960s, to early 1970s Sansui AM / FM Hi Fi reciever / amplifier. Can't tell well from the pic, but it looks to be solid state and not tube driven. If that thing has tubes, PLEASE vent it!

My parents had a late 60s Sansui Hi Fi Stereo with a Solid State receiver, and a hybrid amplifier with the final output circuit being tube driven... Sweet, warm, LOUD, sound every time, and it only took a week for the tubes to warm up!

I have no clue what the art related thing is but have seen similar shapes hanging out around the pyramids in the form of shapely Egyptian women.... but I do know that you did an excellent job of surrounding the electronic equipment with a clean line.. well jointed pieces of wood.

I hate the modern look of electronic equipment but your simple design does and excellent job of camouflaging the electronic box. Glad you got a taste of hardwood for the first time. You will find it is easier to work with IMO than soft-wood as not as easy to blow-out when doing joints. And for the most part takes stain an finish much more evenly than soft-wood with maple and a few very tight grained hard-woods being exceptions.

      Again... extremely well done, sir...

          Another hint

As nobody is making too much progress; we know its fine arts, musical, and a hint about C#, also dbhost's mention of a timeline. How's about LVB... play the xylophone

That is a most unusal project and it looks so darn nice. I never would have thought to do something like that.

                The answer

So as not to prolong this. The pattern represents the first four bars of Beethoven's chorus in the final movement of the ninth symphony. Referred to as The Ode to Joy.

How does it do with heat?

The receiver itself has lasted 45 years without failure while stuffed in a much tighter enclosure. I allowed ample room for air flow and cut holes in the shelf to match the vents on the equipment. As for the joinery, time will tell, but the case does not get warm on the exterior. I don't have a thermocouple for my multimeter, but since you mention it I will stick the meat thermometer in the void above the unit and check to see what we get.

OK. ambient temperature = 73 degrees F. Temperature above the receiver near the vents = 85 degrees. Unit has been on for 2 hours playing at our normal level. Not too bad.
