    Father/ Daughter Project

My daughter has one last project due for school before the end of the year. As they are doing optics, she wanted to make a periscope. So down to the shop we go. Here's what we came up with. Not an heirloom but a great deal of fun.

Nothing like a little shop-time-bonding. You not only made a periscope, you made a memory.

I dunno about the materials used... is that optical grade masonite?

Always fun working with the kids, though!

Cool, I remember making one from cardboard as a kid. My grandson has been talking more about coming to work in Grandpa's shop next month than his trip to Puerto Rico with his stepmom in August Gotta love the special time with the young woodworkers. Those are the memories that last a lifetime. Pat

Shop time with the little ones is what life is about, great Job. The memories will last forever.
Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-

It's not about making a periscope. It's about making a memory, which she will not forget. Nice!

My daughter is thrilled with all the comments made here. She did most of the cutting on my scroll saw and I cleaned up the cuts for her. We used hot glue to join everything as that's what they use in her shop class( go figure eh?). My daughter took it into school for grading on wednesday. Although she didn't get her grade yet, not only was it well received, it was the only one made from wood! Thanks for supporting a grade eight student.

Richard, I know what kind of satisfaction you got out of working on this with your daughter. My oldest just finished the 9th grade and we built a Newton Car about a month ago. It was a memory that I will cherish for quite a while.

I've read your posts and it's apparent that your only mission is to post nasty sarcastic cutting remarks. Think of posting as talking face to face. If it were my face I'd smack you stupid, period. There is options available to the moderators, like canceling your account. My suggestion is to not post, remain absolutely quiet on forums and in real life, that way, no one will know that there is anything wrong with you.

In this case, I don't think that would require a very big smack...
