    Dual Miter / Planer Station

I had fun building this workcenter from Shopnotes # 75. A few mishaps along the way. I assumed that my AP1300 planer would fit the top with the planer extensions unfolded, but it does not. So I will just turn the planer 90 degrees when I need to use it. It is made from Lowes "Blondewood" ply and pine facing. I just need to go get some extra 1/4 - 20 bolts to make stop blocks and I will be set.

Here it is in the folded down, ready to store away...

Here it is with the wings extended and the fence mounted...

And the planer is stored under neath. There is storage for the fences and a handy storage drawer

Only drawback I see is having to lift the planer into place!

Just took another look. Does the planer run from the shelf it is on?

              Pappy,

The bottom shelf is on 3/4 extension slides, and the planer does not have enough room to be run on the bottom. I agree witrh you on lifting the planer up is the only drawback. I use the miter so much more than the planer, so I really dont mind the times I will have to lift the planer up.

Rather than turn the planer sideways (which, if this thing is against the wall, requires some shop re-arranging), why don't you
                1) remove the fold-down beds from the planer
                2) build a couple of small platforms the right height to fill the gaps right and left and
                3) use the wings you have to feed the planer - they'll be longer and better than the wings attached to the planer, if you take the time to level and calibrate them and the planer support.

                just a thought.

                  Nice work.

Having a very small shop and lot (not not enough ) tools. Some thing like this would be cool to have. That station and a shelf for all of my 'bench top' tools would do wonders.

I see this is going to have to be added to the must do list.

I can see you are not very happy with how it turned out, so you can just send it to me and you won't have to to look at it in your shop.
Can you tell I like it??????

I like it. If I had a planer, I would build one.

Really nice work! I love those wings (I need to include that in my next project - a planer stand).
