Just got first BT3100 - Missing part!

Hi there! I finally picked up a used BT3100- it's gently used and in good shape except it's missing one part... the side miter fence hold down clamp assembly.

Is there a place where I can buy a replacement, or has anyone fashioned a reasonable alternative?

    Thanks!

the threaded knob and bolt and washers are standard 5/16-18 hardware and a hex head bolt. The only thing you need is item 6 which can easily be made out of a block or wood or a lamination if you wish. Just needs a vertical hole for the bolt.
proper notch for the fence, and a means to slide in the back slot of the fence.
One famous former BT owner Rod Kirby made one and made his own knob. Likely some pics left around, if not I have the original in my possession!

You may wish to get a copy of the BT3 FAQ. details repair parts dealers who forum members have reported respond well to orders, in case you want to make your saw "original".

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Another option is to check the member classified section. There should be no issue with making it, but if someone was parting a saw out, there also would be no issue with buying it.

        try m&d mower

When I bought my used bt3100 last year, I was missing the exact same thing.

        I bought a replacement from M&D at http://www.m-and-d.com/ryobi_tools.html.

As I recall the shipping was more than the part, so I also picked up some rail end caps that the owner lost, and the plastic ends for the miter fence, since without the locking assembly, he seemed to have cut into them several times.

A T-bolt can be used instead of a regular hex bolt.

Sears parts direct: should be the same as BT3100, since essentially the same saw.

            http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...ponents%20list

The for pieces, each $2.16, say "in stock".

You might want to check Loring's FAQ for other items you should buy in the same order to defray shipping cost - I think belts are on the list.

Thank you all for the info!

I think I'll try fashion one like Rod's - Don't quite know if I can replicate the tightening handle, should be able to get close enough.

Westlake (may be a regional thing), Ace hardwares, have a good selection of handles/knobs.

Otherwise look for those at someplace like McMaster Carr.

that black handle is available with 5/16-18 thread from Rockler or woodcraft i think.

I managed to break mine, (don't ask, it was stupid) and the end plastic bits were damaged beyond recognition. I snagged a complete fence assembly from a fellow member here. So if anyone wants the extrusion, knob, or bolt, let me know...
