How long will my BT3100-1 live

My BT is about 5 yrs old and has seen a fair amount of use. I think it still has all the smoke in the motor yet. I try not to push it hard (bog the motor) and I try to maintain it by using sharp blades, keeping it clean, blowing dust out of the motor, etc.
    My questions are:
1 How long did your BT last before you had to part it out?
2 What was the cause of death?
3 What can I do to prevent the same thing happening to mine?
    Thanks in advance

Meant too add more to that statement.

To your third question: Clean it after you use it, keep it lubricated where needed, ( dry lube ). Sharp blades and all the adjustments up to par. Then when I am finished with a project, I handkiss it and tell it what a great job she did for me....

I think I bought mine 10 years ago. No problems yet. It doesn't get a lot of use, but I usually cut a few boards every week. When I really get the bug, it's every day.

              Questions 1 & 2 - I'll let you know when it happens.

I would have to look up the receipt to tell how old my BT 3000 is but it predates BT3Central!

Question 3 - Sounds like you are doing it.

General question for everybody — What's your choice for dry lube?

I think I got mine in 94 or 95. It still works fine but I don't use it every day.

I parted mine out, cause of death PM2000. Nothing was wrong with my bt, but I only had it for 4 years or so.

I use some variation of teflon dry lube.

                        Just quit on me

Funny you should ask. Mine is 6 or 7 years old and just failed on me this morning. I am just finishing up the biggest job of my life - full set of kitchen cabinets and the blade will no longer raise and lower. It looks like the threaded insert (or whatever is in there) in the motor carriage is stripped. I had just cleaned it up and lubed it a couple of weeks ago.

Anybody have any ideas? I truly love the saw for all it can do and the compact size.

if you really like the saw and want to keep it going, then the best way is to drill out the old hole and put a helicoil into the place. the helicoil is a stainless steel threaded bushing and will last practically forever compared to the old aluminum threaded hole. More detail in the BT3 FAQ (see my SIG line).

                            Per BobSch's question,

"What's your choice for dry lube?". I use either the Liquid Wrench's Dry Lubricant or Blaster's The Dry Lube. Which ever I get my hands on first. They both do good, but Blaster seems to be best.

I bought my used 21829 last fall and I've enjoyed so much that I've purchased two BT3000's thru Craigslist for spares.

I'm toying with idea of building a Frankesaw, so might have to find another one.

                              I'm 62 so if they'll last 30 years more, I'm ok.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...
