Hello from another first poster. I've been eyeing the Craftsman 21829 (currently on sale for $399) but wonder how much like the BT3100 it really is. I'm basing my high opinion of the Craftsman on the reputation of the BT3100 and the reports that it's the next version of that saw. I've never used or owned either.
Is the Craftsman a belt drive saw as I believe the BT3100 was? I cannot find a service or parts manual online yet and the guy at Sears says it's direct drive but didn't know where the owners manual was. Doesn't that make it a little less attractive than a belt drive saw?
I want to buy a portable saw within the next few weeks. My requirements are portability, accuracy, minimum 24" rip capacity, and, of course, solid quality construction. The Bosch 4000-09 gets very high marks in most comparison reviews I've read and I must say it looks like a heck of a saw, but the user following of the Ryobis is incredible. I realize this is a BT3x forum, but does anyone have any opinions of other competing saws I should consider or is the Sears currently the best of the best for under $400?
Thanks.
Weston
