Finally, a good semi-local sale, a day early, but still a dollar short .

Anything I could say about cutting out shop class from schools is going to end up political except, for saying that it is a sad thing to think that this generation and those coming after it, will lack the strong tradition, and work ethic that made this country great.

Not every kid in school is going to go to college, not everyone can be an engineer, or an architect, and we are miserably lacking in apprenticeships for our children.

Some of my fondest memories in junior high and high school revolved around the work bench in shop class.

Sandusky, OH - School wood shop auction

Unfortunatly it is not just wood shop classes. A friend of mine was teaching a small engine repair class in a local high school. He could take 120 students a year for the class. It was so popular there was about 500 students a year that wanted to take it. They would be accepted strictly on the basis of their grades. He had stories of the class Clown, going from barely passing to over a 3.8 gpa to get in.

The school admin closed it down along with serveral other work programs in an effort to raise the level of graduates going on to college, and standardized test scores.

The class that replaced it? Physical therapy. Number of students taking it? 20 last year.
