Sounds similar to my experience. I was told people were using them to "scam" Sears. I asked what kind of scam one could run with a coupon offered by Sears itself, but there wasn't much of an answer to that question. I mean, come on - it's five bucks! I can understand the store managers being pissy about the drill press thing a while back - that was serious money. Is it worth five bucks to lose a customer forever?

Short of an amazing clearance bargain that Sears loses money on, I won't be shopping there anymore. This kind of thing is starting to be an all-too-common occurrence in their stores.

The Sears I go to has a sign with a copy of the coupon on it saying they will no longer accept it. I ask about it and the salesman said they were told by their manager to only accept the original coupon that Sears sent out and not to accept any that were printed or copied.

It worked for me Saturday 1/12/08 at the Sears tool section in Memphis, TN. I bought a couple of things -- saved me $10.00.

well, i tried the coupon last night and the lady at the counter was saying just "No" to the coupon, "not allowed". i asked her why, she said her manager said no. i insisted that she cant do that, so she called someone and they said no. at that point i asked to speak to her manager. well, when the guy came, he seemed to have no problem at all, however, she just kept on saying that 'jeremy' said that we can't. so he looks at me and says, that if the "loss prevention manager" said we cant, he cant really do anything but i can go ahead and use one of the coupons instead of three that i wanted to use. so i buy the thing for $5, and guess what the total was: $0! she was so upset and said to the guy "see, he doesnt have to pay anything, that is not right". i just looked at her and smiled . she really had something up her you know what!

BTW, i have been taking my tool purchase and coupon to one of the main registers away from the tool departement. I figure IF they made folks aware of the coupon it would only be in the tool department.

I still think this is the stupidest thing ever. TAKE IT OFF THE WEBSITE MORONS!

i agree with you completely! if they have a problem with it just storewise, then stop your machines from accepting them! it can not be that hard.

the thing is, corporate has no problem with it. its just certain employees, who are making it miserable for everyone (that includes some managers). its like any other coupon and these coupons work the same way, just $5 off.

This was my third trip to Sears to use this coupon. Today the clerk said there was a message posted not to accept photo copy of the coupon. I ask him how that could possibly work since this is an Internet coupon. He called his manager, and was told to accept it

I don't understand this business strategy, but anything to boost the economy is a good thing now!

Last day for Sears $5 off coupon

Found a good use for these $5 off coupons - while resisting the urge to buy something I don't necessarily want or need just because I have a coupon, I wandered into the sandpaper section. I always need a supply of sandpaper.

Packs of 5 sheets of sandpaper are priced at $1.68.

                              $1.68 X 3 = $5.04

$5.04 - $5 coupon = .04 (not enough for sales tax to apply here)

I used 6 coupons with no problem. Time to print some more.

I was out running around yesterday & realized it was the last day for the coupon so off to Sears I went. It worked again at an different Sears store. They were also having a 15% off brown bag sale.

I picked up some screwdrivers & a few other things. I handed the guy at the cash register the 1st coupon & some screwdrivers, he reads the coupon & said "sir, this coupon is only good for lawn & garden & tools". I asked him which catagory screwdrivers fit in & he says "oh crap!" After a brief chuckle he starts ringing stuff up.

The coupon wasn't working on everything (i.e. an item for $4.99) but he actually started helping me get creating on how we could make the coupons work on certain things. Oh yeah, I found out that it didn't work on stuff already clearanced. All in all 15% off with an additional $5.00 off at the end netted me some great hand tool buys.
