I would have taken them to the nearest internet access point and made them pull it up on the SEARS website themselves.

Like mater said, just out of principle.

I just used a coupon on a $12.95 purchase at Sears - Mall of America. I noticed a copy of the coupon taped to the register that said "this is not a real coupon-do not redeem".

I asked the nice old guy (my age) at the register "what's the deal?"

He said that they were only honoring the printed, mailed coupon. But, I must have an honest face because he let me redeem the Web coupon.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

I used four of them this afternoon. One for a laser/level measuring kit, two lock-back knife sets and an autoranging multimeter. The cashier had to call the manager over to approve the multimeter.

        Thanks again Cheeky!

I tell ya, this gets me worse than the drill press thing. The coupon is shown on THEIR website. THEIR computer is programed to ACCEPT the coupon and it does. I mean 1) take it off the website and 2) deactivate it in the stupid computer. This is just pathetic.

1 per transaction, I chisel, 2 chisel, 3 chisel, 4. No problem, scanned, checked with manager that I could use it with each transaction, and out the door with 25 saved on 5 transactions.

The multimeter is in department 034, so the coupon shouldn't work. That is why the override was needed. Same with flashlights. The coupon should work on items in tools (009) and lawn and garden (071).

If one needs to pull it up on one of their internet access locations, how do we access the coupon by navigating the Sears.com site?

EDIT: Nevermind, I worked with the URL and found that it comes right up with this: http://www.sears.com/ue/home/5Offcoupon.pdf

While a valid question, I would LIKE to know what department is the ue department, for showing DIRECT navigation. (verses using the above link)
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I was able to use one coupon with an over-ride by the manager at the customer service desk. Tried at the tool register but the coupon did not go through. Got a philips set and a couple of bosch shank jig saw blades that were on sale for $1.97. Total for the 5 phillips and the two jig saw blades was $2.11.

I think if I'd had tried to do another separate purchase I might have had some trouble. I do want that 5 set or Torx though . Might just have to go back later.

It worked for me today at the Sears tool section in Arlington, TX. I bought the Boeshield rust kit with it -- saved me $5.00.

                      Thanks.

These are good through 1/22/08, but I'm wondering if there are any desirable items on sale that would make them a bit more worthwhile -- especially if you might have to argue about whether or not something on their site is actually valid.

Used my coupon for this Craftsman 12 in. Rafter Square -- Aluminum. I like the 6" one a lot, and based on using it for a week, this will be a favorite too!

And I don't even build rafters

I tried using it and got denied. I was told it was a fake site, to which I replied "it is from sears.com" . He then went on to tell me someone must have hacked their site and wouldn't accept it. I gave him an earful and left empty-handed. Needless to say, I think that will be the last of my sears shopping. Nothing so special there I can't get at HD or Lowes.

Should have asked him to scan it -- if it scans at $5 off $5 (or more) then it is in their system and not just on their site...
