I'll second that. I'm starting to like the arm also. You have to tighten the arm so that there is no play in it. It does take some getting used to, but the more I use it the more that I like it. My original arm broke as soon as I used it, so I got a free replacement from Sears and I ordered an additional one from parts.Ted KitchComment

I see no reason why this thread should be dropped I think it is of interest to a large number of forum members. It does no harm to anyone but Sears and apparently they just don't care about customer satisfaction anymore. If you are not interested in this thread I suggest you just skip reading it.Comment

What broke in the arm? I ask this because I know nothing about the arm and did not test one in the store. Thom was over and noted that he could not get the adjustment mechanism to work on mine like it did in the store.I'll second that. I'm starting to like the arm also. SteveK2, you are probably looking at a poorly assembled store model in combination with the ratcheting effect of the single arm mechanism thingy. I haven't really gotten into mine to check it out but I could see where you would think there is slop, whereas it is acutally a handle leverage adjustment mechanism.Comment

Is anyone having trouble getting the two lasers coordinated? It seems that their mountings are too flimsy. Once I get them set, locking the mechanism with the set screw changes the beam and the point of convergence is lost. Any suggestions?Blessings,
Chiz

Try tightening the set screws, then backing off until you can move the laser w/ some resistance; hold the laser firmly when you snug up the set screw after it's lined up. On one of them I cheated it such that the tiny bit it turned when tightening the screw brought it into line. It just takes playing with it (or I was lucky).
The only problems with mine were the top cap that holds the rack on the pole was upside down, and the nut that locks the extension arm height had to be tapped the rest of the way through into the square tubing.

The arm broke on the inside. There is a hole in it to mount it inside for the mechanism to work. The first hole that I drilled, the arm just snapped and it felt very brittle. I think that it was just a bad one as the replacement they sent me has been rock solid and the one that I ordered is also very strong.Ted KitchComment

Ditto, that's just what I did. I started to get annoyed in the end, so mine aren't aligned perfectly, but close enough till I get the desire to re-do it.Try tightening the set screws, then backing off until you can move the laser w/ some resistance; hold the laser firmly when you snug up the set screw after it's lined up. This is quite simply no longer a bargain alert thread. Put it in another forum where it fits better. I don't think that is too much to ask.I see no reason why this thread should be dropped I think it is of interest to a large number of forum members. I too got a call from sears this morning that my drill press order is cancelled. Looks like they will cancel all the orders one by one. I will see what will happen.Comment
-
This is pathetic. I got to admit I have no problem with them cancelling in the first few days, but weeks, heck has it been a month?, later is just pathetic.Comment
-
I think that the continued delivery or cancellation of a DP @ $179 is certainly relevant to the bargain aspect.
Go to your user control panel and unsubscribe to the thread so you receive no updates and then simply ignore the thread. It is easy.Comment
